NEWS

KDDI Corporation is pleased to announce that, starting July 31, 2025, its “ConnectIN” service—which integrates connectivity into various products and services such as PCs and IoT devices—will be expanded from corporate offerings to the consumer market under the brand “ConnectIN povo.”

The first device adopting ConnectIN povo is a laptop offered by HP Japan, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Managing Director: Nobuki Okado), available through the official HP Japan online store.

This laptop comes equipped with “HP eSIM Connect LITE by povo”, a connectivity service designed specifically for HP Japan devices under ConnectIN povo. It includes:

  • povo2.0 data plan: 300GB over 5 years on the au 5G/4G LTE network
  • High-security public Wi-Fi: “GigaZo Wi-Fi” provided by Wire and Wireless Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & Representative Director: Tomoki Mukoyoshi)

Users can start using the service immediately by simply purchasing the laptop and registering a povo2.0 account*1

Through ConnectIN povo, KDDI aims to integrate connectivity into a wide range of consumer devices and services, building on its corporate ConnectIN offerings. The company will work with manufacturers to enhance value using connectivity as a foundation for data-driven and AI-enabled services.

Background

  • In November 2023, HP Japan began offering laptops equipped with HP eSIM Connect, an MVNO service launched in collaboration with KDDI. These models included five years of unlimited data connectivity.
  • On January 21, 2025, KDDI introduced “ConnectIN” as a new business model, distinct from monthly subscription plans. Under this model, manufacturers and other enterprises can bundle a fixed period of connectivity into their products at the time of sale*2.
  • While eSIM adoption has so far been driven primarily by smartphones, it is expected to expand into a wide range of devices. For PCs, in particular, as AI evolves across both the cloud and the edge, the importance of seamless connectivity continues to grow.
  • With the rise of hybrid work, demand for laptops among individuals—including freelancers, independent creators, and other professionals without corporate affiliation—has increased alongside traditional corporate use. This growing need has led to the launch of ConnectIN povo for consumers.
